How to Make a Vegan Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich

This is a vegan copycat recipe based on the famous Chick-fil-A chicken sandwich, and it tastes IDENTICAL to the real one!

Chick'n Marinade

Chick'n Wet Batter

Chick'n Dry Batter

  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp organic powdered sugar
  • 1/8 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/4 tsp chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

You Will Also Need

  • 1 quart peanut oil (You must use peanut oil to get the authentic Chick-fil-A flavor!)
  • 2 white burger buns
  • 1 tbsp vegan butter
  • 4 slices dill pickle



  • This step is optional, but I always slightly mold my chick'n scallopini patties into a more authentic-looking shape. For example, I'll gently mold it to create a more circular shape and make it somewhat uneven so it doesn't look like a perfectly flat oval shape. Be careful when doing this, as the chick'n scallopini is quite fragile when thawed!
  • Make the chick'n marinade.

Chick'n Marinade

  • Add the two ingredients into a shallow container that is wide enough to fit both of the chick'n patties. Stir the two ingredients together well and place the chick'n patties inside.
  • Marinate them in the refrigerator for AT LEAST one hour, but preferably overnight. Flip the chick'n patties over halfway through marinating them to ensure both sides of the chick'n are well flavored.

How to Batter and Fry the Chick'n

  • Preheat a deep fryer or a pot with the peanut oil to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. *Use a thermometer!!!
  • Line a sheet pan with a wire rack.
  • In a wide, shallow bowl, whisk together the wet batter ingredients.
  • In another wide, shallow bowl, whisk together all of the dry batter ingredients.
  • Do NOT begin battering the chick'n unless your pot of oil is at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. First, evenly coat the entire marinated chick'n patty in the wet better (I only ever batter one at a time). Then, place the patty into the dry batter and evenly coat the whole thing, making sure not to miss any parts.
  • Gently shake off any excess flour mixture, and carefully place the battered chick'n into the pot of oil. Fry this for a total of 6 minutes, gently flipping it over halfway through.
  • Using a pair of metal tongs, carefully remove the fried chick'n from the oil and hold it over the oil for a few seconds to allow it to drip off the excess fat. Then, place it on the prepared wire rack while you prepare the bun.

How to Prepare and Assemble the Chick'n Sandwich

  • Place a large saute pan over medium-low heat. Once hot, add in the butter. Once the butter is melted, place the buns inside facing down and warm them until the insides are slightly golden brown.
  • To build a chick'n sandwich, place the bottom half of the toasted bun down, followed by two slices of dill pickles, then the crispy chick'n patty, then the top bun!
